Another brief visit (2014:03:16) to East Camino Cielo Road, riding down to the Santa Ynez River. Parking at the end of the pavement on East Camino Cielo was tricky, because the one rain of the winter had washed out the parking areas so that the drop from the pavement to the dirt was steep. We just rode along Romero Camuesa as far as the overlook to the Upper Santa Ynez river valley.
The route as shown in Google Earth. For clarity, I’ve turned the compass upside-down: south and the high ridge of Camino Cielo (with the sea just beyond, out of the picture) are at the top.
Here comes John, arriving at the first river crossing at the bottom.

Panoramic view looking west into the Upper Santa Ynez River valley, from the farthest point we reached on this visit. This is March, remember. Do things look dry or what? We had a simply dreadful winter, with hardly any rain at all.

The same spot as the previous photo, looking east this time. You can see the road we came in on, and, since this is as far as we went on this visit, the road we’re about to go out on.

Taken from further east, working our way back up the road; there’s even a little water in the riverbed.

A final shot looking south from the top of the ridge on East Camino Cielo.
